Summer Practices Theme:

Celebrating the fulness of expansion
.

Element: Fire

Meridians / Organs: Heart, Small Intestine, Heart Protector, Triple Heater

In this summer series of classes, we choose Fire poses that stimulate the Fire energies such as extensions, inversions, heart openers & core work.  The Heart & Small Intestine meridians of the Fire element influence the choice of practices.  In addition, the digestive fire (Agni) is extremely important.   According to Ayurveda (Science of Life & sister science to Yoga), Agni is the key to overall health when balanced and contained in the belly.  We also temper this with some cooling, calming Yin practices – especially if the heat is on!
The energy pathways that dominate the fire elements are:
Heart  - being the radiant organ and when healthy, all other organs do their jobs properly.
Small Intestine - whose primary task is to absorb nutrients from food and pass the waste on to the large intestine for elimination - it basically sorts out what is good for us and what is not
Heart Protector - which acts as a shock-absorber to defend the Heart from shocks, hurts and betrayals in life, and
Triple Heater - the 3 burning spaces of lower abdomen, upper abdomen and chest - which are responsible for the maintenance of harmony of the body mind and protects the heart.
As yoga is all about being in balance and harmony with oneself and nature, the inner and the outer, the complimentary energies that create the whole.  So the practices we choose are specifically tailored to balance these energies  enhance our own inner nature, our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and wellbeing.
The attitude we bring to the summer practices are:  we move with ease, we breathe deeply, we open to a joyful & compassionate heart, we rest in spaciousness, abundance & gratitude.
I hope you can join us for the expansive, loving, heart-oriented elements of fire.
Be Kind to Yourself

FIRE is the energy of summer; it gives us warmth and the capacity to love and be loved. It enables us to mature and blossom. We experience Fire, one of the elemental powers, most fully in the season of summer, the time when young energy that arose in the spring expands to its maximum potential.
