1to1 Private Sessions

Yoga is a personal thing.  

I offer personal 1to1 sessions,  practices that are targeted to your individual needs according to health status, fitness level and overall aim.  

 

Yoga was traditionally taught on a 1-1 basis.   The ancient yogis understood the importance of individualizing each yoga experience to meet the needs of the individual student.

 

The first session is an assessment of structure, body function, breathing and mental state.  A practice will be designed to help you meet your aims so you can from the first session, feel the benefits on the physical-emotional-mental levels - with for example:  physical strengthening, toning and flexibility; enhanced mental clarity enabling focus, awareness & inner calm;  which can be rejuvenating, restoring & relaxing;  all of which enhance your general health and well-being in a positive and life affirming way.  

So, whether you are interested in taking just a one-off session, or a series of private yoga sessions, you can view this as an investment in your personal growth,  health & wellbeing and an act of self-care.

Is it for YOU?

  • You may have injuries or an illness and want to find a practice and environment that meets your personal needs.

  • You want a class tailored to your individual needs. For example; strengthening lower back weaknesses & pain management; improving joint flexibility; improving balance; reducing stress; learning skilful means how to relax and/or meditate.

  • You already attend classes and now who would like to develop a home practice but don't know where to start – or how to keep going!

  • You want to develop and deepen your practice and your usual class does not cover in detail, for example breathing techniques, specific postures or meditation.

  • You want to learn how to nurture yourself with a one-to-one restorative yoga session.

  • You can't fit a regular yoga class into their busy schedule.                     

Some of the Benefits of a private yoga class:

  1. Learn the basics. Ease or reduce the stress or intimidation experienced by beginners when attending large group yoga classes for the first time.  Private yoga lessons can give you a direct immersion into the basics of yoga, which will give you the foundation necessary to feel comfortable in a group environment.

  2. Private yoga classes are the perfect way to work with special health concerns, injuries, or any other limitations you may experience. Working one-on-one with a you will learn how to adapt certain postures and use modifications as well as find out if there are specific poses to avoid when in class.

  3. Experience a supportive environment where your confidence will grow, where you get encouragement and help you understand the mechanics of the poses, and provide modifications and alternatives for you so you get the most out of your yoga practice.

  4. Fit in with your life. Private yoga sessions can be offered at a time that best suits your life, making it easier not to lose the motivation.

  5. Create a yoga tool kit. Working one to one allow us to create for you your own set of yoga postures and techniques that you can use anytime.

  6. Building on your foundation you can develop and learn more – yoga is a life-long journey. Experienced yoga practitioners can also greatly benefit from private yoga lessons especially for those who want to take their practice to the next level, explore areas in more depth or simply like some individual support.

YOGA for Healthy Lower Backs: 12 week course
I am experienced in offering this Specialised YHLB 12 week course, evidence based, from a large yoga research study with York University and funded by  Arthritis Research UK.     The positive results showing it to be safe and effective, were published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.   
The course teaches & motivates people how get moving again, with simple, gentle yoga, targeting back comfort, with postural improvements, mental focus and relaxation techniques. 
Research proved long-term benefits for those who attended the 12 week course and continued practising at home for approx 30 minutes twice a week.
